The BS4872 Part 1MAG Weld Test

This is a non-procedural welding test to prove competence on steel. The test involves four welds in the vertical and horizontal upside down positions. Two welds are fillet and two butt.

Thickness of sample materials is 1.0mm although some manufacturers also request 2mm and 3mm (Porsche).

Welds are tested onsite for:

  • Visual
  • Nick break
  • Macro

Advice and training is offered to each candidate to enable the best opportunity to pass at this level.

The BS4872 Part 2 MIG Welding Aluminium Test 

This is test for aluminium. The same procedures as above and test plate thicknesses are 1.5mm and 2.5mm. Samples are 5356 AlMg.

BS1140TESTING

Spot Welder Testing

This test is designed to test the operator in correct use of the machinery and also the correct observation of the resulting weld. Welds are carried out in the manual mode and not automatic.

Test diameters to be achieved are 5mm and 8mm weld nuggets.

Peel testing is performed on the resulting sample.

MIGBRAZE

This test involves a lap and butt welding on 1mm steel. Discussions about MIG Braze theory and machine setup and correct use.

What's Involved? 

 

This is the requirement for BS10125. It involves the  same BS 4872 and BS1140 testing as stated before. The module involves additional paperwork to apply to your ATA personnel accreditation.
